Argentina tour highlights

Vibrant, beautiful and brimming with life, Argentina seduces travellers with its heady blend of natural splendour, vivacious people, Latin passion and dramatic architecture.

Our small group Argentina holidays can take you from the elegant streets of Buenos Aires to the raw, glacier-pitted landscapes of Patagonia or the lush jungle that envelops Iguazu Falls. There are many highlights to Argentina, but here are a few of our favourites:

Buenos Aires
Argentina’s cosmopolitan capital Buenos Aires is a heady combination of Latin soul and European-inspired grandeur. Its distinct barrios each have their own flavour: from the bright colours of La Boca’s alleyways to the cobbled streets and antiques markets of genteel San Telmo, or the Manhattan-esque parks and loft-style hotels of Puerto Madero, along the Rio de la Plata riverbank. Many of our Argentina small group holidays begin in Buenos Aires; our Buenos Aires to Rio trip will take you overland between two of Latin America’s most captivating cities, with a walking tour around the capital’s most famous landmarks, time to spend at the splendidly ornate Recoleta Cemetery and the chance to take in a sultry tango show.

Patagonia
Spanning both Argentina and Chile, the vast region of Patagonia is home to some of the most spectacular scenery on Earth. Its size is almost incomprehensible, with emerald lakes and toothpaste-blue glaciers providing a glittering contrast to its vast swathes of grassland and rocky outcrops. Join our Adventures in Patagonia holiday to be guided through the immense Torres del Paine National Park, spotting penguins, guanaco and vicuna, hiking on the great Perito Moreno Glacier, taking a ferry across the Magellan Strait and discovering the southerly city of Ushuaia, with its end of the Earth feeling. End the day with a glass of Malbec and share stories of your sightings with your fellow travellers.

Argentina wine region
As well as its breathtaking natural beauty, Argentina is renowned for its exceptional cuisine and rich wines. The country perfected the art of flame-grilled steak, and grill houses can be found across the land where you can indulge in the grass-fed beef and full-bodied Malbec - perfect after a long day of hiking in through the intensely beautiful national parks. Sample both on our Wine and Landscapes of Argentina tour, travelling through the heart of the country to see colourful mountains and desolate salt plains, verdant forests and arid deserts. A highlight is the mountain-backed region of Cafayate, its lines of vineyards producing Torrontes and Malbec wines.

Iguazu Falls
Perhaps one of Argentina’s most recognisable landmarks, Iguazu Falls is high on everyone’s list of must-see sights. Spanning both Argentina and Brazil, the mighty falls are made up of 275 different drops across almost three kilometres, combining to make the largest waterfall in the world. Our Patagonia + Iguazu Extension trip gives you ample opportunity to stand before the spray pouring from the falls, learning about the 2,000 various plant species nourished by the swollen rivers and standing amid the churning morass at the Devil’s Throat.
