Challenging grade cycling tours

Challenging small group cycling trips

A challenging grade cycling trip is a more demanding but extremely rewarding cycling experience. These itineraries require a good level of fitness and confidence in the saddle, with both non-technical and off-road cycling involved - we recommend having prior cycling experience. On a typical challenging cycling trip you’ll have 6+ hours or 60+ kilometres of saddle time. However, while our challenging grade cycling trips are active tours, they aren’t training rides. Wherever possible we enable everyone to cycle at their own pace, stopping throughout the journey to regroup and recharge. Often, there will also be a support vehicle should you require assistance throughout your rides.

FAQ

What can I expect?

Think conquering a classic cycling challenge, such as the iconic Coast to Coast. With tough climbs and thrilling descents to accompany the fantastic scenery, you can expect a challenging cycling trip to reward you with many wonderful memories. Looking for more inspiration. Discover 5 epic rides to challenge yourself.

What should I pack?

Since we’ll be spending much more time in the saddle than other cycling trips, padded shorts will provide extra comfort, while padded gloves will ease impact. We also recommend packing sweat-wicking layers, as well as a lightweight waterproof jacket. You can find more advice on what to pack in our cycling tour packing guide. Larger luggage for the rest of your trip will be transported for you.

What type of bikes will we use?

The type of bike is chosen depending on the terrain of each itinerary. Generally, we use a mixture of hybrid, city or trekking bikes. There are no road or racing bikes used on our trips. More details on the type of bike used on each trip can be found in the trip notes, under the ‘Cycling information’ tab.

Can I bring my own bike?

You are welcome to bring your own bike, however, please contact us first so we can ensure your bike fits the trailer.
