Morocco Tour Highlights

Our selection of small group holidays to Morocco will take you from the bustling souks of the imperial cities of Marrakech and Fes to the remote jagged peaks of the Atlas Mountains and the windswept Atlantic beaches of Essaouira. Here are some of our Morocco Tour highlights:

Marrakech
Join our Highlights of Morocco Tour to immerse yourself in the hustle and bustle of the imperial ‘red city’ of Marrakech. Delve into the old walled medina to discover colourful souks and the throbbing heart of Marrakech, the Djemaa el-Fnaa. Be mesmerised by medicine men and craft stalls, and savour delicious street food including towering plates of couscous, tureens of harira soup and trays of spicy merguez sausage, served from portable kitchen stalls. Spectacular architecture also adorns the streets of Marrakech. The largest mosque in Morocco, Koutoubia, is a must-see, and the lavish carvings and decorative detail of the Saadian tombs are astonishing.

Essaouira
An international mecca for watersports enthusiasts, Essaouira beach has a lively, yet laid-back atmosphere. White-washed buildings sit behind the city’s ancient sandstone medina walls and traditional fishing boats bob in the bustling trading port. Explore narrow alleyways boasting an array of local craft stores and take in panoramic views of the old town from the historic ramparts. If you and the family fancy having a go at surfing, jump into the rolling waves of the Atlantic from the long stretch of golden beach on our Morocco Family Adventure or watch the sunset over the ocean on camelback.

Atlas Mountains
The highest range in North Africa, the Atlas Mountains are a popular highlight of our tours to Morocco. Join our Toubkal Trekking Tour to discover breathtaking panoramic views from the lofty peak of Jebel Toubkal, or walk along the foothills of these majestic peaks to the windswept Atlantic coast on our Atlas to Atlantic Morocco Walking Tour. The Atlas Mountains are also home to traditional Berber villages set high up in the valleys. These quiet ancient settlements are a world apart from the lively souks of Morocco's cities. Immerse yourself in a bygone era as you join a local family for lunch and learn about the indigenous Berber culture.

Fes
One of Morocco’s four imperial cities, the medina of Fes is a labyrinth of narrow alleyways crammed full of eclectic artisan shops and food stalls. From coppersmiths and weavers to tanners and potters, the exquisite craftwork produced in Fes is said to be some of the finest in Morocco. Dodge the myriad of mules and small chariots carrying sacred wares around the city and barter with local tradespeople for a unique memento to take home. Ornate mosques and shrines also punctuate the streets of Fes. Gaze at the intricate carvings, colourful mosaic tiles and elegant marble arches of the Sanctuary of Moulay Idriss 2nd, the Karaouine Mosque and the Al Andalus Mosque on our Best of Morocco Discovery Tour.

Family Holidays in Morocco
Embark on a family holiday in Morocco. Ride mules into the wilderness of the Atlas Mountains, explore the Sahara on camelback and sleep in a traditional Berber tent in the dunes on our Family Atlas Mountain and Sahara Adventure. Alternatively, let the kids explore a maze of narrow alleyways and bustling souls in Marrakech and hone their surfing skills on the sandy beaches of Essaouira on our Family Marrakech, Atlas and Essaouira Adventure.

Solo Travel in Morocco

Our Morocco holidays are suitable for solo travellers too; at least half of the people on our tours are usually travelling alone. Our small group tours are a great way to meet like-minded people and make new friends. Plus, you can let us look after all of the logistics so you can explore Morocco with ease and in great company.

Best time to go to Morocco

Although Morocco is a year-round destination, the most popular and busiest times to visit are in spring and autumn when temperatures are a bit cooler. Enjoy quiet trails through the Middle Atlas Mountains from June to September, but avoid the sizzling hot sun with desert camel rides at dawn. A winter getaway will allow you to explore the souks and the streets of Fes in relative peace, but you’ll likely find snow on the Toubkal mountain trails from November through to January.

Ramadan
If you choose to travel to Morocco during the Islamic holiday of Ramadan, your trip may vary from the usual format. Visiting during Ramadan is a great way to fully immerse yourself in the local culture and learn about their religious rituals and beliefs first-hand. However, you may need to adhere to specific rules in respect of this sacred festival. Take a look at our guide to find out more about travelling during Ramadan
